Introduction

I am an aspiring minimalist, environmental advocate and I enjoy anything and everything related to fiber. My cousin taught me basic crochet stitches when I was a child and I went on later to teach myself additional stitches, as well as how to read instructions. Later, I taught myself how to knit and once I got married and had children, I learned to sew. I made clothes for myself and my children and I also made wonderful Halloween costumes. In addition, I began to explore different crafts, such as, counted cross stitch, candle wicking and other types of embroidery.

Unfortunately, as my children got older and my life became busier, I gave up most of my beloved hobbies. Then one day, I was invited to attend a meeting of a local knitting circle. I had such a nice time, chatting with the other knitters, as my fingers tried to remember the stitches. I started to go regularly and gradually began to reacquaint myself with many of my former pastimes. Now, in addition to knitting, crocheting and sewing. I have begun to explore other fiber arts, such as, spinning, weaving and rug hooking.

I don't know about you, but, whenever I think of hobbies, I visualize lots of Rubbermaid tubs filled to the rim with supplies. However, two of my passions are (1) paring down my personal possessions and (2) minimizing my impact on the environment. That means, picking up my old hobbies has been quite challenging. I still purchase many of my supplies, new, directly from the store, but one of my goals is to try to obtain as many items, as possible, either second-hand or from a local thrift store. I also want to strive to use up as much as possible before I purchase additional supplies.

I thought that if I were to document my fiber adventures, it would keep me inspired to continue and I could possibly learn from others, who have similar interests and goals.

We will see,

Belinda
